On Sunday, the Uni wrapped up five deployments in five days with a visit to NYC Chinatown. Whew!
Our pop-up community work began in Boston as residents of Boston’s Chinatown with films on a vacant lot and the Chinatown Storefront Library. So this was a return of sorts, and we ran into friends from both Chinatown communities, Boston and New York.
Thanks to our host Wellington Chen, Executive Director of Chinatown Partnership Local Development Corporation. Thanks to Uni volunteers, Meghan and Kelly. Thanks to Uni installer Peter Zweifel who worked with me until the last cube was stacked away in Queens. Great work team. We’ll be back.

When I arrive early to a festival location, this is exactly what I love to see: a plan.

Uni volunteers Eleanor and Malcolm took the Uni logo 3D.

Pop-up books are placed out as a lure to readers…

Leslie, Amy Cheung, Kim Szeto, and John Wang. Amy helped lead our 2010 Storefront Library project in Boston’s Chinatown and has worked for our friends and long-time collaborator: the Asian Community Development Corp.

Jane Bock and family stopped by and brought us dumplings. Jane has been a friend and supporter of the Chinatown Storefront Library and the Uni.

This mother is not actually reading to her child. She is taking a photo of him reading (with her iPad in a book cover). Pride.

Chinatown loved the microscope. We practiced focusing and talked about magnification.

This amazing pop-up book was donated to the Uni by the Museum of the Chinese in America as part of a cube curated by the institution.

Solved!

Not solved! (Uni volunteer Kelly is missing a corner piece there, but we gave her a Uni button anyway!)

Thanks Rebeca Ramirez for her hard work on today’s event. She loved this book about biodiversity and asked to be photographed with it!

Holy Spatial Reasoning Batman! Solved!

Math puzzles got a major workout in Chinatown. Love it.

Leslie and Nick Peterson, Senior Project Manager with NYC Department of Transportation, talk shop. We’ve been coordinating Uni deployments with DOT pedestrianization efforts.

Today’s Uni is brought to you by the letters Kelly Blanchat and Meghan Dowell! Thanks team.

Uni installer Peter takes us out. Outstanding day Chinatown. We’ll be back—I can feel it.
